A powerful abstract painting in shades of blue and blue-green, The Wait explores the state of waiting, when something is taking shape and preparing to emerge.
Birth requires waiting and transformation through many different stages. In the same way that life emerged from water, and we ourselves begin our existence in water, the colours of this painting evoke an underwater world where something new is quietly forming.
Created with acrylics on canvas, the artwork also incorporates fragments of dried paint torn from paint containers. These egg-shaped forms can be seen throughout the composition. Up close, each fragment becomes like a miniature artwork within the larger painting, a universe within a universe.
The painting invites you to pause in the space between what has been and what is yet to come, embracing the uncertainty and possibility of transformation.
The artwork was exhibited at the Strömfors Ruukki art exhibition from 2–28 August 2024.
